Eggspectation - Burtonsville: Fresh Breakfast & Creative Brunch in a Modern Setting

The place looked nice and tidy. Hostess’ were super friendly! Server was on top of everything, checked in with us, gave us additional time to decide what to order. Food tasted great! It even tasted fresh and not out of a can or frozen. I wouldn’t order their coffee again but I can’t complain. I would love to go back for lunch/dinner.

The food and service at this new restaurant are quite good, but it’s worth noting that they’re still learning the ropes. The prices can be a bit steep, but for some of the meals, it’s worth it. My spouse and I have been there three times now. Our first two visits were with Cici, who was a very sweet and kind server. However, my last visit was with a server who barely checked in with us and seemed visibly unhappy. It might just be personalities, but that was my experience. Their menu is very creative. On our most recent visit, we ordered the Bene-Ducked and Fried Chicken & Waffle. The duck was pleasantly surprising, not as greasy as the meat can be, but it could use more flavor. It sat on top of an untoasted croissant, which would have been better if it was a bit toasty. The duck, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce together are already soft, so I think it needed some crunch somewhere. The poached eggs were a tad overcooked and not as runny as I would have liked. The side salad was great, considering the dressing on the same salad during my first visit was a bit too lemony for my taste. The Bene-Ducked was filling but lacked flavor and wasn’t worth the $23 price. Still, it was a fun experience to try. The Fried Chicken & Waffle was much better. It was juicy, crispy, and flavorful. The waffle had a nice crunch, and it was soft on the inside. Sweet and savory fans will love this dish. I would definitely get it again. The chicken was very tender and seasoned well, and combined with the waffle, you’ll be stuffed and in a happy food coma by your last bite. Eggspectation, known for its eggs, is also famous for its Lyonnaise-style potatoes. Served as a side with most of their menu items, including benedicts and omelettes, these potatoes are supposed to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. However, my experience has been disappointing. Each time I’ve tried them, they’ve been too soft and lacking in that crisp texture. My spouse, on the other hand, enjoys them that way, and some may as well. The Eggsuberant ($18) comes with two pancakes, two eggs any style, and your choice of bacon, ham, or Fontanini sausage. It’s also served with Lyonnaise-style potatoes. The pancakes had a surprisingly lemony aftertaste, which my spouse enjoyed, but I wasn’t a big fan. I’ve seen some reviewers mention that the bacon tastes artificial, but I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. If I were to order this dish again, I would either opt for substituting the pancakes with waffles or try the french toast instead. My favorite dish so far is the Eggspectation Crêpe ($15). I’m a fan of a combination of ham and cheese, and adding eggs and hollandaise sauce makes it even better. The crepe is incredibly light, and everything melts together - so delicious! Overall, Eggspectation has a great atmosphere and is very tidy. However, expect some slow service since they’re a new restaurant and are busy during peak breakfast and brunch hours. Some menu items are a miss (sorry, potatoes and Bene-Ducked), while others truly exceed your eggspectations like the Fried Chicken & Waffle and Eggspectation Crêpe.

So happy to have Eggspectation back in the area as a part of the revitalized Burtonsville Crossing shopping center. The decor is modern & fun with comfortable table seating and private booths. It appears there will also be an outdoor seating area available. I usually get breakfast, which is always fabulous, but this was my first dinner visit and the meal was great! I didn’t realize they had so many good options for lunch/dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive, and it was nice for the manager to check-in with each table. There is a small back room for a private event, and the bar looks like a good spot for happy hour. Lots of drink options, including great mimosas, but unfortunately no beer on tap. I’ll definitely be back!

We were very happy to participate in the family and friends soft opening. It was interesting that the various tables and had different menu options. What would have been helpful if folks had diet restrictions vegetarian/vegan etc. That there would be a special menu for them to order from so they can get feedback on those dishes as well. I had chicken and waffles and hubby had the blue berry pancakes with potatoes which was very good he said. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We also spoke to the manager FiFi Williams. She is amazing Thank you again

Can I just say that I wasn't expecting much since they just opened and you know sometimes it takes a little while before food is fabulous.... BUT nope, everything we tried was 10 out of 10, it was so good!! Gabby was our server and was so nice and bubbly, service was also 10 out of 10... Shrimp and grits 10 out of 10 so goood!! Garlic Bread 10 out of 10 it was like a big garlic knot!! Huevous Racheros 10 out of 10 the tortillas were very crunchy, chorizo was seasoned very nice and jalapeños were hot and my egg was nice and runny! Chicken and waffles 7 out of 10.. chicken was crunchy, seasoned good and the waffle was just a regular waffle. Smoked.salmon appetizer on bread was 8 out of 10 could have used more cream cheese but was very taste!

I went on a Tuesday in the early afternoon so it wasn’t busy. Our server was great, warm, and funny. Her name is Tiara (I hope I spelled that right). My mom ordered the chicken and waffles. They were great. I think it was slightly underdone but it’s still the best waffle I’ve ever had. The chicken was bigger than expected (not an issue) and was tasty and juicy. The firecracker shrimp were good. Slightly too tangy for my taste but I’d order it with the sauce in the side (I’d def get it again). The crab cake appetizer was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. It came with the same slaw as the shrimp so I didn’t eat the slaw again. Maybe try a different flavor of slaw… I ordered the Grand Marnier French toast. It was drowning in syrup so the bread was soggy and inedible. I was really looking forward to it. I’ll try to save them by putting them in the air fryer. I would still order it again but the syrup HAS to be in the side and I’d ask for no fruit. The amount that was on there was quite ridiculous. I also asked for no bananas (Tiara def put that in the order) but the kitchen got it wrong. I got a caramel latte to go. I didn’t like the caramel syrup but the drink wasn’t bad at all. I would probably get a regular coffee next time. Overall, I’d def go back again (for the chicken and waffles alone).

My husband and I went to Eggspectation Burtonsville for brunch and overall had a good experience. The biggest downside is the wait — it seems to always be about an hour, and they don’t take reservations or offer a call-ahead system. That can be a little frustrating since there isn’t much to do nearby while you wait. Luckily, we were able to grab seats at the bar, so we didn’t end up waiting the full hour. I ordered the mimosa flight, which was definitely worth it. For food, we went with brunch classics — the chicken & waffle and the shrimp & grits. The chicken & waffle was a generous portion, though the chicken could’ve used a bit more seasoning (I’d recommend asking for Tabasco when you order). The shrimp & grits, on the other hand, were absolutely delicious. I went back two weeks later with my sister for Sunday brunch to give the spot another try. Same situation with the wait — about an hour seems to be the standard. This time we were seated near the bathroom/kitchen, which wasn’t ideal, though thankfully there weren’t any funky smells. We started with the Gooey Goosebread, which is very reminiscent of monkey bread and sooo good. For entrées, we tried the breakfast taco trio (solid choice, but note that the chorizo has some spice) and the Grand Marnier French toast. The French toast was fantastic — portions are huge, with three thick slices that are definitely shareable. All in all, Eggspectation Burtonsville serves tasty brunch food with generous portions, but the long wait and lack of reservations make it a “plan ahead” kind of spot.
